their age. Other people reach later stages of life while preserving a physical, mental and metabolic structure that challenges the usual expectations associated with time.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/section>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<div class=\"hl-age-marker\"><\/div>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<section class=\"hl-age-section\"><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<h2>Ageing as a biological trajectory<\/h2>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>When this contrast is seen repeatedly, across different lives and clinical histories, treating it as anecdotal becomes insufficient. It asks for a more biological reading of ageing.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>Over time, cells accumulate damage, repair systems lose efficiency, and processes such as mitochondrial function, immune response and metabolic regulation change. This framework is well established in ageing research. Even so, it leaves open a central question: why two organisms exposed to comparable conditions can follow such different biological trajectories.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>A young cell is exposed to stress and errors constantly. Its difference lies in the ability to respond with precision, repair what needs repair and return to stable function without remaining trapped in an excessive or incomplete reaction.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>With age, this capacity usually becomes less well adjusted. The body may continue to react, although the process tends to become more costly, less proportionate and harder to close. Within this progressive misalignment, the real differences between one biological trajectory and another begin to become visible.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>Several processes become especially relevant when ageing is understood as a gradual loss of biological precision.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/section>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<div class=\"hl-age-marker\"><\/div>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<section class=\"hl-age-section\"><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><\/p>\n<h2>Chronological age and biological information<\/h2>\n<p><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>For a long time, age was measured almost entirely through lived time. Chronological age is simple and useful, yet it says little about what has happened inside the body during those years, or how the organism has handled stress, illness, rest, inflammation, nutrition and the demands of life.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>Some epigenetic tools have opened another way of studying this difference. Models such as Horvath\u2019s clock or DunedinPACE analyse DNA methylation patterns, chemical modifications that regulate gene expression while preserving the genetic sequence itself.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>From these patterns, they estimate a biological age that may coincide with chronological age, or may diverge from it.<\/pee><!-- [et_pb_line_break_holder] --><pee>The distance between these two figures can indicate whether the system has aged in a more accelerated, more preserved or more age-consistent way.
